Last week Michael and I ventured out in the heat and humidity to check out the Seoul Zoo, which is located in the massive Seoul Grand Park complex south of Seoul (it also has two museums, a theme park, and a botanical garden - I see more trips in our future!). We hopped on the subway by post and had a nice 15 minute ride on the air conditioned train...to then melt when we stepped outside. We still had a lot of fun and I took a ton of pictures...we'll see how many I can share here!
We followed the advice of others and bought a ticket for the Elephant Train - which travels around Seoul Grand Park and dropped us off right in front of the zoo.
First up were the flamingoes and giraffes - both a big hit with Michael.
Next up was a building dedicated to the Grasslands - lots of hands on exhibits and activities to keep us busy.
When we stepped outside, the fun continued with more animals
and a lot of "larger than life" photo ops.
The zoo is huge, so we wandered throughout the African exhibits for a bit.
We arrived at Michael's requested destination - crocodiles - and saw some monkeys and other reptiles, as well.
Throughout the zoo there are huge sculptures and art pieces - here are just a few that caught my eye.
There used to be a dolphin show that was very popular here, but the dolphins were all released back into the wild earlier this year after calls for it within the country, so we only saw some sleepy seals at that area. The dolphin area is being renovated, so I am not sure what will be there in the future.
As we were getting ready to leave, we stumbled upon the kid's play park and Michael was miraculously rejuvenated for round two of play.
A successful first visit to the Seoul Zoo - we only saw about 1/3 of it,
so we'll be back! This guy will not.
